In order to legally apply for residence to the United States on the basis of being a relative of a US citizen, one needs to provide definitive proof that you indeed are related to that person. Historically, this was a complex and involved process requiring tracking down birth certificates and other paper work, getting them certified by authorized people and then submitting them (in triplicate!) to the US Immigration authority. You would have to wait for the paper work to be accessed. If your paperwork was not 100% complete or there was a query, you would have to go through the whole process again. This involves big time delays and often considerable additional expenses.

You can now accelerate the whole process of proving your biological relationship to the US citizen who you are claiming to be your relative by undergoing a simple DNA test. Simply make an appointment, appear in person, provide the sample DNA (usually from saliva or from some skin cells in your inside cheek), pay your fee - and you are done! An alternative lower cost option is the DIY approach. Purchase a DNA testing kit online, take the sample (again probably some skin cells from your inside cheek), provide some proof of your identity, and then send the pack of to the company which processes the testing kits. These kits plus the analysis services usually retail for under $100. You can find these companies by googling the term "DNA Testing Kit". As with any online purchase, do be careful and research the company thoroughly before sending any money.

Regardless of the approach you take, you can be sure that this method will expedite the whole process of proving your identity for immigration purposes. All that remains now is for you to pass that citizen test, attend the formal ceremony, and then enjoy your new life in your new country!
